Xiaomi's H900: A Packaging Design Masterpiece

Transforming Complex Internal Circuits into Exquisite Patterns

Xiaomi's H900 hair dryer packaging design, a Silver A' Packaging Design Award winner, is a testament to the brand's innovative approach. Inspired by the product's high-performance motor, impeller, and air duct design, the packaging is a blend of minimalist aesthetics and complex internal structure representation.

The H900 packaging design stands out for its unique properties. The complex internal circuits of the product are transformed into exquisite patterns, brought to life through embossing stamping printing. This technique not only reveals rich colors but also adds a tactile element, allowing customers to feel the texture of the embossed lines.

The design realization technology employed in this project is noteworthy. The embossed hot stamping laser process used on the packaging surface highlights the product's low-key industrial design and powerful performance. The combination of embossing and different imaginary color films results in a packaging that displays rich and different color gloss at different angles.

The packaging design measures 280mm in width, 102mm in depth, and 320mm in height. The design project, which took place in Beijing, started in July 2020 and was completed in November of the same year. The design team included Creative Director Lu Chen, Graphic Designers Jiangpeng Su and Dijing Wang, and Packaging Structure Designer Zhizhuang Song.

The underlying research for this design focused on the Mi Ionic Hair Dryer H900's unique features. The hair dryer is equipped with a powerful digital motor of 106,000 rpm and 13 impellers producing an ultra-high speed of 60m/s. This technology greatly reduces air pressure loss and takes away moisture by the super speed airflow instead of generating high temperature. A fast frequency of 50 times per second of intelligent temperature control ensures real-time temperature adjustment, effectively helping to avoid heat damage to the hair.

The main challenge faced by the design team was creating a new look for the high-end product line in a market saturated with hair-dryer products. However, the team successfully overcame this challenge, creating a packaging design that not only reflects the product's internal structure but also stands out for its artistic appeal. The copyright for this design belongs to Xiaomi, 2021.

The H900 packaging design was awarded Silver in the A' Packaging Design Award in 2021. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
